Early Development:
Cash Converters unique merchandise formula and trading style was developed and strengthened through experience as retailers in pre-owned goods, from November 1984 through to June 1988 with the establishment of seven outlets in the Perth (Australia) Metropolitan area and with seven working partners each holding equity in their respective stores.
Mindful of the need at that time for the creation and implementation of a uniform retail entity for Cash Converters, Advertising Agents were commissioned to develop a strong marketing and trading image.
Franchising of Cash Converters commenced in June 1988 with the opening of two franchised retail stores in the Perth Metropolitan area.
Due to the enormous success of these two stores, a further 12 franchised stores were added the following year and have since been complemented by a regional network of franchised stores in the country regions of Western Australia.
With a total of 23 metropolitan and three country stores in Western Australia together with the extension of the franchise chain to other states, Cash Converters now operates over 135 stores across Australia.
International Development:
The International development of the Cash Converters Group began in 1991 when the master license for the United Kingdom was sold. Since this date 100 stores have opened in the UK.
The success of the UK operations has led to a considerable number of International license sales including such diverse countries as Greece, Canada, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Spain, Portugal, the Nordic Countries, Argentina, France, Paraguay and Bolivia.
The first store in France opened in December 1994 and this region has since developed into a retail chain of approximately 100 stores. The success in France has been repeated in Canada, with operations commencing in May 1995, and over 60 stores open and trading.
The development of previously sold territories continues to gain pace with stores opening in Germany, USA, Ireland, Spain and Holland.
Cash Converters opened in South Africa in October 1994 with a pilot site in Parow in Cape Town. Franchising began in late 1995 and to date 50 franchises have been sold.
Cash Converters is well on its way to achieving its corporate goals which seek to establish the Group as the world leaders in the retailing of pre-owned goods, and to provide an exciting, viable, innovative business opportunity to people from all walks of life with sufficient resources, ability and commitment to succeed.
The growth of the worldwide network has resulted in a Cash Converters becoming the world's largest franchised dealer in pre-owned household goods.
