Why our franchisees choose Cash Converters Part 2

In part two of this series, profiling the owner-operator of the Hillfox Cash Converters, Jean-Jacques Terblanche, it became abundantly clear that the right person coupled with the right business model goes a long way to building a successful franchise.

A go-getter, a person with initiative that is energetic and positive, will be able to take advantage of the proven Cash Converters model of three revenue streams: the buying and selling of pre-owned household goods, secured lending against goods and unsecured lending against a salary.

However, there is another, very important element that attracts people to the Cash Converters brand. It is all about the people. Terblanche says that a successful Cash Converters becomes part of the community. Over time, a Cash Converters should become a pillar of the local community.

“Many people are very loyal customers, something that I haven’t seen in any other business type. In this business, you literally become the go-to store for people. I have people who phone me asking for something, let’s say they need a lawnmower. They call me and then they will wait a few weeks – or whatever – and buy it from me instead of going down the road and buying it from another store, even if it is available and brand new,” says Terblanche.

He says he has also noticed that people come to the Hillfox Cash Converters just to see what’s on the floor. “You get a lot of people who come visit regularly because they have a good experience when they browse at the store, and they know the product changes all the time. The relationship you have with your community is critical.

Terblanche explains that the other vital people are the staff. “At the beginning of the franchise partnership, Cash Converters offers comprehensive training, and that helps to set us all up for success. Head office also offers continual support. There is ongoing training – modules are consistently shared with the staff via the e-learning platform, and upskilling is ongoing. This investment in your people is important.”

Solid people relationships, with staff and customers, are in many ways the third leg of a tripod of success. It is evident that Terblanche is a people’s person. The smile and passion when he speak about his business, staff and customers.
